Heavy traffic, long queues reported at several Bosnia border crossings

Drivers are advised to start their journeys well-rested, allow sufficient time for travel and check road conditions and border crossing information before departure. Patience, adjusted speed and maintaining a safe distance from vehicles ahead remain key for safe driving during the busy summer travel season.

Fires in the Kanjina and Zivasnica areas near Konjic are currently not threatening traffic. The fire is spreading towards mountainous terrain, while the main road remains open. Traffic, which had previously been affected by the fires, returned to normal on Thursday evening.

Long vehicle queues are reported in both directions at the following border crossings: Doljani, Bijaca, Velika Kladuša, Kostajnica, Dubica, Gradina, Orasje, Ivanica, Hum, Deleusa, Klobuk and Zupci. At other border crossings, passenger traffic has increased, with waiting times currently not exceeding 30 minutes.

Due to continued construction works on the Nemila–Vranduk motorway section, the Golubinja–Nemila subsection remains closed, and traffic has been diverted to the M-17 main road.

Due to road rehabilitation works, the A-1 motorway section Lasva–Kakanj (6 kilometres) is closed, with traffic redirected in both directions onto the opposite carriageway.

On the A-1 motorway section Sarajevo West–Lepenica, traffic has been redirected to the overtaking lane due to ongoing works.

On the main roads Dobro Polje–Miljevina, Tuzla–Bijeljina and Jablanica–Blidinje, traffic is allowed for vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, while vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes remain prohibited.

Due to construction works on an additional lane for slow vehicles on the Podromanija–Sumbulovac road, Romanija pass (climb from the Podromanija direction), traffic is moving slowly, with occasional temporary stoppages.

On the Sarajevo–Lapisnica road, traffic is slowed to one lane on working days from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to the installation of lighting in the Vratnik tunnel.

Alternating one-lane traffic is also in place due to necessary works on the main roads Crna Rijeka–Jajce (in Podmilacje) and Konjic–Jablanica (Ribicki bridge).

Longer waiting times may also occur at border crossings due to the implementation of the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) for registering travellers entering and leaving EU countries.

The Brcko border crossing is open for passenger vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes. Since December 2, 2025, the Karakaj border crossing has been open for all categories of vehicles. Traffic for all freight vehicles remains prohibited at the Sepak border crossing.
