“The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina plays a key role in the implementation of these amendments, generally speaking, in ensuring that elections are held in accordance with relevant legislation and democratic principles. Specifically, with these amendments, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina was provided with means for effective sanctions in cases of violation of election rules, as well as for solving cases of election fraud,” it said.

In the letter, the High Representative stated that he expanded the powers of the CEC in terms of the election process.

“Article 6.7 of the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was amended and supplemented by the decision of the High Representative, is one of the key provisions aimed at the protection of electoral rights and the fight against electoral irregularities. This provision expands the powers of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina in terms of election administration, including counting centres. Likewise, this provision enables the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to issue orders to the election administration to eliminate established irregularities and impose sanctions,” the letter said.
