The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, addressed employees in state institutions in BiH.
He began by expressing his gratitude.
“Thank you. Thank you for your service, be it at SIPA, the BiH Court and Prosecutor’s office, and any other institutions of the state. You are doing a very wonderful job.
Thank you because you are dedicated to fulfill the rule of law. Nothing else is expectable, and those who are pressing you, they are somehow pressing in Republika Srpska that one could lose its property, or one could be imprisoned only because one has not followed some ideas of some people”.
He then sent a clear message:
“This will not become reality. Why? Because we are not living in North Korea where one person decides the life of everybody. We are in free Europe. In a democracy, if there are different opinions, there is a clear procedure to be observed. I think you can rely on the Constitution, you can rely on the courts, you can rely on those caring for a peaceful future in this country. All other ideas are not to be supported. Thank you”.
The statement comes after, Milorad Dodik, the president of the Republika Srpska entity, gave an ultimatum to employees of state institutions in BiH to leave and come to work in the institutions of the RS.
He even announced that a number of SIPA members would join the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs after Darko Culum resigned from the position of head of this police agency on Wednesday.
He said that once the Special Prosecutor's Office of RS is established, “certain actions” will be immediately taken, alluding to the fact that he will prosecute those who fail to comply with his demands.
However, he did not stop there and even announced violations of human rights, as well as other laws, including entity laws. He also threatened with property confiscation.
“We are studying how to confiscate the property of those who continue to work in the Court and Prosecutor's Office of BiH in the RS,” he said.
