Bakir Izetbegovic, the Bosniak politician and the leader of the Democratic Action Party (SDA), said there is no reason for a war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, adding that none of the peoples living there support that idea. “Neither the Bosniaks nor the Serbs nor the Croats. People are planning vacations, not wars,” he stressed.

Speaking to N1, Izetbegovic said that in order for a war to break out people should feel threatened, which is not the case in Bosnia.

For his party, which is among the strongest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Izetbegovic said it is a “cooperative force that prefers peace and stability” and is implementing it, contrary to Milorad Dodik, the leader of the SNSD, the ruling party in Bosnia's Serb-dominated region Republika Srpska.

Dodik, who is also the Serb member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency, has recently announced a withdrawal of the entity from the state institutions including the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at some point its secession from BiH.

Speaking of his recent meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Izetbegovic said they discussed various topics. He stressed that the Turkish President is on good terms with Dodik and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and that this has to be used.

“Instead of creating problems that are chasing the kids away, let's build Belgrade-Sarajevo highway, Turkey can help us. Erdogan is a genius. He created a modern city out of messy Istanbul, he created the strongest army. He knows how to recognise things,” said Izetbegovic.

As for a meeting with Vucic, Izetbegovic said he is ready to meet the President of Serbia “anywhere,” suggesting that he would offer a location if Vucic offered a date for the meeting.

According to him, current political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be solved in one meeting but requires a whole process.

“Dodik will be fighting and testing the limits, then he will try to save something, he will get sanctions. They can thank me for being cooperative, I will try to make him come to his senses, I offered him a meeting but he rejected it,” Izetbegovic concluded.
