"This year, we mark the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica — a solemn and painful anniversary for the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thirty years ago, over 8,000 innocent men and boys were taken from their families and brutally killed. The pain of these crimes continues to echo across generations, in the hearts of mothers and fathers, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and sisters who still grieve for them", he said.

"On this day, I reflect on the enormity of this tragedy, but I also reflect on the strength of those who carry the memory of the victims forward. I admire the community leaders, teachers, and guardians of history who make sure that these stories are never forgotten. They ensure that their lives, cut short as they were, were not lost in vain, but will make a difference. Their courage and resilience are a testament to the human spirit. They remind us that remembrance is not passive. It is active, powerful, and essential", he stressed.

Koski said that the United States stands in solidarity with the victims and their families and supports the efforts for justice to be served and the perpetrators to be held accountable for their heinous crimes. He noted that the US has, over the years, supported the Srebrenica Memorial Center and those working to preserve the personal effects of the victims, document their stories, and provide a place for reflection and learning.

"This work helps future generations understand the human cost of hatred, violence, and indifference. Commemorating the genocide must not only be about remembering the past. It's about reaffirming a shared commitment to peace, empathy, dignity, and justice. It's about taking something tragic and transforming it into a reason for hope", he explained.

He reaffirmed that the US remains steadfast in its commitment to support peace, reconciliation, and coexistence in Bosnia and Herzegovina to build a future in which suffering is never repeated.

"As we pause today to remember those who are lost, let's also recognize the quiet heroism of those who continue to search for remains, care for the grieving, teach the truth, and create spaces for healing. Their work is indispensable.

On this 30th anniversary, I offer my deepest respect to the loved ones of the victims of Srebrenica and to all those in Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world who stand with them. The road to healing is long, but you do not walk it alone. We remember the dead, we honor the living, and we renew our commitment to a future rooted in peace and shared humanity", he said.
