During the call, Becirovic emphasised that Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing its most significant security threat since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
He stated that the leadership of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by Milorad Dodik, is directly endangering the Dayton Peace Agreement, the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, peace, and security. In this context, he mentioned that last week, the RS entity police threatened state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina with weapons.
"Such actions represent an attack on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and contain elements of armed rebellion," Becirovic asserted. "These are organised and systematic attempts to undermine the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The leadership of the RS entity openly denies the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, threatens secession, and demands the expulsion of international representatives, which is a direct assault on peace, stability, and the international order."
Secretary of State Lammy affirmed the UK's full support for the independent judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and stressed that their decisions must be fully respected.
He condemned the undermining of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the RS entity leadership. Lammy conveyed the UK's firm support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the preservation of peace and security in the country and the region. He also stated that the UK, as a witness to the Dayton Peace Agreement, would not allow the 30 years of peace and stability-building in the region to be jeopardised.
In this context, Secretary of State Lammy highlighted the importance of the UK hosting the upcoming Berlin Process Summit, scheduled for October in London.
Specific activities for Presidency Member Becirovic's upcoming visit to the UK were also agreed upon. In London, Becirovic is scheduled to meet with top UK officials to discuss a range of options aimed at ensuring respect for the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Becirovic expressed his gratitude for the UK's continued support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European and Euro-Atlantic path, as well as the strengthening of a multi-ethnic and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina.
