Some 300 miners gathered in front of the headquarters of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity Government building in Sarajevo, demanding two back wages and compliance with the collective agreement have achieved another victory for their rights, as the meeting between the authorities and the Trade Union representatives was successful.
The FBiH Minister of Energy and Mining, Vedran Lakic, addressed the public and miners after the meeting, saying that salaries will be paid.
“All those earlier talks were successful and so was this one. I thank the Trade Union for their fight and we support it. We have established that there are financial resources in the FBiH budget, which will be used to pay the salaries of the miners of the mine in Zenica”, said Lakic.
He noted his dissatisfaction with the current situation in the mines and stated that they are determined to face all problems together.
“Today it’s a problem with this mine, but we have problems with other mines, as well. As the Government, we have accepted the collective agreement to pay salaries for January and February. Over the next 15 days, we will announce what will happen to the Zenica mine. We will try to pay the salaries as fast as possible to make these people happy so that they have salaries in their accounts”, Minister Lakic concluded.
Miners’ Trade Union representative Sinan Husic also addressed the media:
“We are pleased to know the position of the financial resources needed to pay the salaries for January and February for the Zenica Brown Coal Mine. Yesterday, we weren’t ready to accept the offered model of dynamics or the time period. We agreed, today because all the measures and actions that should have been started have been initiated. We expect that in the course of the next week, the agreed solution will be fully implemented on the basis of which the salaries for January and February will be paid,” he said.
In the event that it does not happen for any reason, the Trade Union will determine the reaction and inform the entire BiH public about it.
The miners also demand that a decision regarding the status of the Zenica Brown Coal Mine be fully established within the next 15 days.
