New legislation seeks to secure funding and protect personnel as Bosnia’s demining workforce halves

More than three decades after the end of the conflict, Bosnia and Herzegovina still contains approximately 756 square kilometres of land suspected of harboring landmines, while the number of qualified demining personnel has dropped by nearly half since the Covid-19 pandemic. A proposed demining law currently undergoing consultation aims to establish mandatory domestic funding while standardizing labor, social, and pension rights for workers facing high-risk conditions.
