New Ravno–Slano road strengthens cross-border links between Bosnia and Croatia

The 10-kilometre road, which shortens travel between Ravno and the Croatian coast to just 15 minutes, was financed with strong support from the Croatian government, which invested around €7.3 million in the project. The total value of Croatia’s investment in improving road connections with BiH currently stands at approximately €32 million.

At the opening ceremony, Croatian Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic emphasised that the new road strengthens ties between Dubrovnik’s hinterland and BiH, making travel and trade more efficient while improving access for tourists visiting the region. He also announced future projects, including the construction of the Ravno–Hutovo and Vir–Arzano roads, aimed at further enhancing cross-border connectivity.

Representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federation of BiH Minister of Transport and Communications Andrijana Katic underlined the broader importance of the project for local communities, noting its “economic, tourism, and demographic benefits” and highlighting that improved infrastructure is key to revitalising border areas and fostering sustainable development.

The official opening was also attended by Croatian Minister of Construction Branko Bacic and HDZ BiH President Dragan Covic, who earlier met with Croatian officials in Mostar to discuss ongoing transport and infrastructure cooperation between the two countries.

The Ravno–Slano road is expected to boost regional trade, strengthen people-to-people ties, and position southeastern Herzegovina as an increasingly accessible and attractive destination for both domestic and international visitors.
