The Foreign Affairs Minister of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, said that his country is one of the co-sponsors of the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, which the UN General Assembly will vote on on May 2. He also called on Serbia to support the resolution.

“North Macedonia is a co-sponsor, together with Germany, the USA and other countries, of the Resolution in the UN to declare July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica in 1995 and to mark it every year,” Osmani said at the press conference.

The minister said that the resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica will be presented on April 17 before the UN General Assembly, and that the vote will take place on May 2.

Osmani called on the UN member states, especially Serbia, to support the resolution so that what happened in Srebrenica “never happens again”.

“I think it is especially important for Serbia to vote for this resolution with the aim of having the facts recognized and promoted, since all the decisions of international courts and bodies show that genocide took place in Srebrenica. As long as Serbia renounces it and does not acknowledge it, the possibility of a recurrence is likely,” he said.
