A nursing home modeled after those in Europe was opened in Potocari near the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica on Sunday, and was named after late 'mother of Srebrenica' Hatidza Mehmedovic.
So far the most modern nursing home in Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a clinic, restaurant and common area for socialising within its facilities.
‘Mothers of Srebrenica’, which is a common name for the women survivors of the 1995 genocide, who wish to move into the nursing home, will get accommodation and care free of charge. The apartments were designed to make their everyday lives easier and to be close to the Potocari Memorial Centre, where their closest family members were buried following the 1992-95 war.
The total value of the project is some 4 million marks (approx 2 million euro). The facilities were built by the Bosnian MFS-EMMAUS solidarity fund and Dutch organisation Proplan.
“The value of this complex at this place is enormous not only for us but the entire community of Srebrenica and wider,” they said.
Many local and foreign organisations, informal groups and individuals also made their contribution to the project.
