Many local and international officials have condemned the brutal attack on an elderly Bosniak returnee couple from a village near Visegrad calling on the authorities to find and prosecute the perpetrator.
BiH Presidency member Denis Becirovic strongly condemned the attack and called on Republika Srpska (RS) entity authorities to urgently investigate, discover, process and punish the perpetrator.
“I strongly condemn the cowardly act of attack on the returnees Ajsa and Fadil Memisevic, who were physically attacked and beaten by several people in the returnee settlement of Omeragici in the municipality of Visegrad. The authorities of the BiH RS entity and the municipality of Visegrad must react urgently, find and detain the perpetrators of this heinous attack committed at the beginning of the month of Ramadan,” Becirovic said.
The BiH Presidency Chair, Zeljka Cvijanovic, strongly condemned the attack on the Memisevic couple.
“I am appalled by the brutality and I find it unacceptable to threaten anyone's personal safety and property in the RS,” Cvijanovic said.
She also welcomed the quick reaction of the Republika Srpska Interior Ministry, pointing out that she expects the competent institutions to adequately sanction the perpetrator of this robbery.
Visegrad Mayor Mladen Djurevic also called on the authorities to sanction the perpetrator.
“I would like to take this opportunity to condemn the attack on the returnees Fadil and Ajsa Memisevic from the village of Omeragici, who were attacked and beaten by persons unknown for now,” said the Mayor of Visegrad Mladen Djurevic.
“I expect the competent authorities to shed light on this event as soon as possible! Visegrad is a city of peace and tolerance!” said Djurevic regarding the attack on a married couple of returnees Fadil and Ajsa Memisevic in the village of Omeragici near Visegrad.”
The High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt, also condemned “the cowardly attack on two returnees in Visegrad and called on the authorities to find and punish the perpetrators. Citizens have the right to a safe and free life wherever they want in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Whoever questions this, acts against Dayton and should be aware of the consequences. the High Representative expresses his solidarity with the victims and wishes them a speedy recovery.”
The police apprehended Bojan Prodan suspected of having committed a robbery and attacked Fadil and Ajsa Memisevic from the village of Omeragici.
