Over 6,000 join Peace March honouring Srebrenica genocide victims

More than 6,000 participants have begun the annual Peace March, a 100-kilometre, three-day journey honouring the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. The march retraces the path known as the "Death March," where thousands of Bosniak men and boys fled toward Tuzla in July 1995 in search of safety.

Survivor Salih Mulalic, who lost his brother during the genocide, spoke to N1:
“When I walk past the place where my brother was killed, everything comes back. I once wanted to quit the March, but I endured. Now, I tell my story, it helps me, and we pass it on to the youth so this is never forgotten.”
Among the marchers is Senad Hadzic, who is famously known for walking to Mecca for Hajj. This is his 14th time participating, now walking alongside a group of pilgrims.

The march began in Sapna on July 8 and will conclude on July 10 at the Srebrenica Memorial Centre in Potocari. The route includes mountainous and forested terrain, with daily distances of up to 30 kilometres. Along the way, participants are offered hospitality in returnee villages, many of which witnessed mass killings and contain mass graves.

VišeSurvivors, activists, youth, and international delegations join together to pay tribute to the victims and ensure future generations remember the atrocities committed in the UN-protected zone.
The march ends on July 10 with a commemoration and the burial of newly identified genocide victims the next day.
