As part of the 26th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, a photo exhibition titled "Scars" by Paul Lowe was opened Friday in the former battery factory of the Potocari Memorial Center, realized by the joint cooperation of the Center and the MESS Festival.
The exhibition deals with Sarajevo from the period of the siege, but from a different perspective. Paul Lowe has been attached to Sarajevo since the early 1990s. During the siege, he spent months walking around the city, capturing the destroyed and damaged architecture with his camera.
“One of the topics I dealt with was the impact of aggression on the architectural material of the city. How heavy weaponry destroyed the buildings, how shrapnel left violent marks on the streets and walls, and how citizens built makeshift barricades to protect themselves. The “Scars” exhibition documents the very textures of destruction, which was a terrifying beauty at the time,” Lowe said.
