The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina responded to N1’s inquiry regarding the celebration of January 9 as Republika Srpska Day, which the Constitutional Court of BiH declared unconstitutional. Specifically, N1 asked whether the Prosecutor’s Office acted in accordance with the BiH Criminal Code and initiated a case regarding the unlawful event that was organised on Thursday.

“At the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, at the beginning of 2024, a case was formed based on a report submitted by a private individual, i.e., a citizen. A team of four prosecutors is handling the case. Information was requested from the Constitutional Court of BiH, and a directive was sent to the State Investigation and Protection Agency to carry out certain actions and checks. Once a prosecutorial decision is made, the public will be informed”, the Prosecutor's Office said.

However, it said that no complaint was submitted regarding the event from Thursday.

At least three criminal complaints have been submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in recent years regarding the celebration of January 9, the unconstitutional Day of Republika Srpska.

Among those reported are the President of the RS entity, Milorad Dodik, BiH Presidency member, Zeljka Cvijanovic, as well as the the President of the RS National Assembly, Radovan Viskovic.

The Constitutional Court has ruled against January 9 as Republika Srpska Day on three occasions.
