"Let's open our hearts to the mercy of Ramadan, fill them with love for others, especially for our closest ones," Kavazovic said, urging the believers to keep in mind the suffering of the innocent ones in the world.
He wished all the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina to spend the month of Ramadan in peace, prayer with their loved ones and their neighbours, devoted to the values of their faith.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which Muslims spend fasting from dawn to sunset, striving to gain God's pleasure, moral purification and spiritual strength.
This is the month that includes the night of Laylatul-Qadr, in which God's revelation of the Quran began and the night of Badr, a historical event that strongly influenced the history of Islam.
According to the Calendar of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the month of Ramadan begins at sunset on Friday, February 28, with the first Tarawih prayer on the same evening, while the first day of fasting comes on Saturday, March 1.
After the month of fasting, Muslims welcome Eid al-Fitr, one of the two biggest holidays on Sunday, March 30.
