Record fines for election rule violations in Bosnia

SNSD was fined around €41,900, while fines imposed on its officials brought the total sanctions linked to the party to €52,700.

SIP cited multiple violations of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Election Law, including premature campaigning and the use of children and public resources for political purposes.

Dodik was fined around €4,600 over an Instagram post promoting infrastructure projects and taking credit for them on behalf of himself and his party. State parliamentarian Sanja Vulic was fined around €4,100 for premature campaigning and making inaccurate statements during a television programme.

The Drasko Stanivukovic – Safe Srpska Movement coalition received the second-largest total, at around €13,000, followed by Social Democratic party (SDP) with €8,700. United Srpska and its leader Nenad Stevandic were fined a combined €7,200.

Fines were also imposed on parties from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including Democratic Action Party (SDA), the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina and People's European Alliance (NES). The Croat five-party coalition, comprising Croat Democratic Union 1990 (HDZ 1990), Croat Republican Party (HRS), Croat National Progress (HNP), Croat Demo-Christian Party (HDS) and Croat Peasant Party (HSS), was also fined.

Under the Election Law, the election campaign lasts 30 days. This year's general election campaign began on 4 September, with voting scheduled for 4 October.

Voters will elect members of the tripartite Presidency, the state and Federation Houses of Representatives, the Republika Srpska National Assembly, the RS president and vice-presidents, and cantonal assemblies in the Federation.
