Bosnia's Republika Srpska entity has sent two helicopters to fight the wildfires that have been raging through Jablanica municipality, south of Sarajevo, for days and are now threatening nearby homes.
The RS Helicopter Service said that the assistance has been provided in line with the 2001 cooperation agreement signed between the civil protection authorities of Republika Srpska and the Federation (FBiH), Bosnia's other semi-autonomous entity where the municipality affected by the wildfires is located.
The response of the RS authorities came after the FBiH Civil Protection Authority asked for assistance.
“The request was positively responded very quickly so the two helicopters of the RS Helicopter Service departed from Banja Luka to the Jablanica municipality, where the wildfire hit a wider forest area above the Komadinovo Vrelo, which is spreading towards the Plasa plateau on the Cvrsnica Mountain,” said the Helicopter Service.
Due to the extremely high air temperatures, the operation will start at 6:30 pm.
