"Bosnian cinema has consistently demonstrated its quality and international significance, yet its accolades have often come without consistent, long-term support," Minister Magoda stated. "With the establishment of this Foundation, we are shifting the paradigm and handing full management of the industry over to the professionals."

Operating as an independent entity, the Foundation will be led by a Board of Directors comprised of industry experts. This board will hold the authority to draft regulations, design programs, and set strategic goals. Its core mission includes supporting film production, project development, and nurturing young talent.

For the 2026 fiscal year, the Sarajevo Canton Budget has allocated 2.5 million Bosnian marks (approximately €1.28 million) to fund the Foundation’s operations. Additional financial backing has been pledged by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH). Magoda noted that while the Ministry will provide institutional support and legal oversight, all primary decision-making will remain in the hands of film professionals.

The Foundation is viewed as a vital step in solidifying Sarajevo’s status as a regional film hub. By ensuring continuous production and promotion of domestic films, it aims to preserve the creative spirit championed by the Sarajevo Film Festival.

Acting President of the Foundation Ines Tanovic, alongside acting Board members Alena Dzebo, Benjamin Cengic, and Nebojsa Jovanovic, emphasized the historical weight of this move. Tanovic remarked that for years, the local film scene achieved remarkable success despite a lack of institutional backing. She noted that the 2.5 million marks (approximately €1.28 million) budget offers the stability needed for production starting in 2026.

Board member Alena Dzebo added that the Foundation serves as a significant boost for the film community and the preservation of cultural identity. "This Foundation represents hope and encouragement for all film professionals who have lacked work opportunities for years," Dzebo said, stressing the importance of a high-quality, long-term policy framework.
