The Sarajevo Canton's Ministry of Transport has announced a public procurement for electric buses, making Sarajevo the first city in Bosnia and Herzegovina to initiate such a purchase. Part of a project to improve air quality, the Federation of BiH entity’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism launched the tender for five new low-floor electric buses, accompanied by charging stations (six single or four double), and five new diesel buses.

The procedure follows World Bank rules, which secured loan funds under "Component 3 - Support to Transition to Low-Emission Transport." This initiative aims to provide low-emission public transport vehicles and enhance fleet management.

Following the 2021-2025 purchase of 50 vehicles (25 trams and 25 trolleybuses), 35 more are arriving this year. By 2027, when these new buses are delivered, Sarajevo will have acquired 95 new vehicles. The Ministry also plans to procure additional trams this year, aiming for 30 more by 2030 to fully modernize the fleet.
