Despite the announcements, international peace envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt will not appear before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament on November 30 to clarify his decision to impose changes to Bosnia's electoral law on election night last month.

N1 learns that although this possibility was considered by the Foreign Affairs Committee for the upcoming session scheduled for November 20 and December 1, it will not happen.

Reportedly, the Committee will hold a closed session and talk to EU special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak as well as the European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, who will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina next week to discuss the country's EU path with local officials.

It was not specified if Schmidt would speak to the Committee on another occasion.

European Parliament member Tineke Strik recently announced that Schmidt would appear before the EP's body to clarify his decision from October 2, amending Bosnia's Election Law and the Constitution of Bosnia's Federation entity on the election night.

Strik and a group of MEPs addressed Schmidt earlier, calling his decision “undemocratic” and stressing that such reforms should be passed through democratic processes.

Schmidt, who took over the post of the international community's High Representative in BiH last August, used his special competencies on the election day, hours after the polling stations were closed, imposing changes to the Law on Elections of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Constitution of the Federation entity, officially naming the decision ‘Measures to improve Federation Functionality’.
