Rescue teams have resumed their search this morning on mount Bjelasnica for a person who went missing on Tuesday afternoon in the mountainous area.
The Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) Sarajevo Station, participating in the operation, confirmed that the search was suspended on Wednesday due to severe weather conditions. Heavy snowfall and blizzard-like conditions made the terrain extremely difficult and unsafe for rescue efforts.
Teams from the Mountain Rescue Service of Sarajevo Canton reported that their members were back on the ground at 8:00 am Wednesday, determined to continue the search.
“Yesterday, the weather was truly harsh, with visibility reduced to just two meters and winds reaching 120 km/h. We operated as long as possible, but we withdrew our teams late in the evening for safety reasons to avoid risking their lives. The search continues today,” they stated.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the missing individual is a 46-year-old man from Konjic employed at a meteorological station. He reportedly set out early in the morning to take over a shift at the observatory, but these details have not been officially verified.
In addition to the Mountain Rescue Services of Sarajevo Canton and Sarajevo Station, the operation includes personnel from the Sarajevo Canton Police Directorate, ZOI’84, and the Federation entity’s Administration of Civil Protection (FUCZ).
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with teams committed to overcoming the challenging conditions to locate the missing individual.
