Sunny and hot weekend in Bosnia and Herzegovina, heavy traffic expected on roads and at borders

As of Saturday morning, there are no extraordinary traffic restrictions in place, apart from sections affected by ongoing roadworks. Long queues of passenger vehicles have already been reported at the Izacic, Ivanica, Deleusa, Hum and Zupci border crossings on exits from Bosnia and Herzegovina, while congestion has been reported in the opposite direction at Brod.

At Velika Kladusa and Gradina, queues are long in both directions. At Doljani-Metkovic, Bijaca-Nova Sela and Gradiska-Gornji Varos, there are currently no major queues on the Bosnian side, but travellers are facing longer waiting times when entering Croatia. At other border crossings, passenger vehicles are currently waiting for less than 30 minutes.

Traffic is expected to be particularly heavy in Herzegovina due to the Feast of the Assumption, with a large number of pedestrians and pilgrims expected on roads leading toward Mejugorje. Drivers are urged to exercise increased caution and patience.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Automobile Club (BIHAMK) is also advising drivers to avoid longer journeys during the hottest part of the day where possible and to take frequent breaks if travelling.

Several road restrictions and diversions remain in place due to construction and maintenance works. The Golubinja-Nemila section of the motorway is closed because of continued construction of the Nemila-Vranduk subsection, with traffic diverted to the M-17 main road.

A six-kilometre section of the A1 motorway between Lasva and Kakanj is also closed for road rehabilitation, with traffic moving in both directions along the opposite carriageway. On the Sarajevo West-Lepenica section of the A1, traffic has been redirected to the overtaking lane due to ongoing works.

Traffic restrictions also remain in place for heavier vehicles on several roads. Vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes are permitted on the Dobro Polje-Miljevina, Tuzla-Bijeljina and Jablanica-Blidinje roads, while vehicles above that weight remain prohibited.

Traffic will also be periodically halted on the Vlasenica-Han Pijesak road on Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., due to a hill-climb race.

BIHAMK warns that waiting times at border crossings are changeable during the summer holiday season and that additional delays are possible due to the registration of travellers under the European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES).

Temperatures up to 37°C

The weather is clear across Bosnia and Herzegovina this morning, with temperatures at 8 a.m. ranging from 11°C in Sokolac to 26°C in Mostar. Sarajevo recorded 16°C.

The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute forecasts sunny weather throughout the country today. Winds will be light to moderate, predominantly southwesterly in the south and easterly to northeasterly elsewhere.

Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 28°C and 34°C, reaching 37°C in the south.

In Sarajevo, sunny weather is expected throughout the day, with a high of around 31°C.

With high temperatures forecast and increased traffic expected, authorities are urging motorists to plan journeys carefully, take regular breaks and exercise particular caution on busy roads and near border crossings.
