Swiss citizen Tobias Wernle arrived in Bosnia to show his support for the Mothers of Srebrenica on a historic day when the United Nations General Assembly is set to vote on the Srebrenica Genocide Resolution.
Wernle emphasized the importance of this Resolution, stating it is “very important” and expressing relief that “we finally have it.”
“The significance of the Resolution cannot be briefly described in words. It is crucial due to the denial of genocide in Bosnia, especially in the Republika Srpska entity,” he said.
Wernle also highlighted the role and impact of the Mothers of Srebrenica, who have worked tirelessly over the years to raise global awareness about the Srebrenica genocide and promote a culture of remembrance.
“I met the founders of the Association in 1996 and 1997 when I came to BiH with a delegation from the Swiss Society for Threatened Peoples. Since then, we have followed their efforts. For us, it was normal. The Mothers of Srebrenica have done a job that, in a normal country, would be carried out by an institution,” Wernle added.
