Three years on, the tragic death of David Dragicevic, a 21-year-old man from Bosnia's second-largest city Banja Luka, remains unsolved. Citizens laid wreaths at the city's central square on Thursday and paid their respects to the young man, as they do every year on this date.
Dragicevic had gone missing on the night from March 17 to March 18, 2018, and his lifeless body was found on March 24 in the Crkvena river.
Initially, the police said he had taken drugs and drowned in the river but eventually this case was qualified as murder.
Dissatisfied with the investigation, the citizens formed a group ‘Justice for David’ led by his father Davor Dragicevic, who swore he would pursue justice no matter what.
Citizens have been gathering in Banja Luka for nearly a year under the slogan ‘Justice for David’ to protest against the Republika Srpska (RS) entity authorities, a part of Bosnia where Banja Luka is located, demanding the truth behind the death of Dragicevic to be revealed. Davor Dragicevic and his supporters believe RS police is covering up the murder and protecting some politically connected suspects.
They were protesting until December 30, when police banned them from doing so any longer with an explanation they were disturbing the peace and order.
Today, three years on, the citizens are still asking: Who killed David? Who covered up the case and why?

The City Administration allowed the citizens to mark the central square in memory of Dragicevic in the period from March 18 to April 7.
District Prosecutor's Office in Banja Luka filed the case as a “murder” and the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has seized it for a review.
‘Justice for David’ group and Dragicevic family are still waiting for the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to rule on the appeal they filed over what they called the violation of the right to a fair trial.
