Traffic congestion across BiH: Long queues at border crossings, heavy traffic towards Konjic, Mostar and Sarajevo

According to the Bosnia and Herzegovina Automobile Club (BIHAMK), traffic volumes have increased significantly on the approaches to Konjic, Mostar and Sarajevo.

Drivers are facing the most severe congestion at border crossings, where waiting times have stretched to several hours.

Long queues of passenger vehicles in both directions have been reported at the Izacic, Gradina, Velika Kladusa, Kamensko and Prisika border crossings.

Heavy inbound traffic into Bosnia and Herzegovina has also been recorded at Bijaca, Kostajnica and Svilaj.

On the outbound side, long lines of vehicles have formed at Gabela Polje, Osoje, Doljani, Gorica, Crveni Grm, Ivanica, Deleuša, Zupci and Hum.

At the Gradiska–Gornji Varos crossing, there are no significant delays on the Bosnian side, but bottlenecks and lengthy waiting times have been reported at Croatian border controls in both directions.

Traffic remains heavier than usual at other border crossings, although current waiting times do not exceed 30 minutes.

BIHAMK also reminded travellers that the European Union's Entry/Exit System (EES) has been introduced, and the registration of passengers may occasionally cause additional delays.

Several roadworks projects are also affecting traffic across the country.

On the A-1 motorway between Lasva and Kakanj, a six-kilometre section has been closed for resurfacing, with traffic operating in both directions on the opposite carriageway.

Further south on the A-1 between Sarajevo West and Lepenica, vehicles are being diverted into the overtaking lane due to ongoing works.

The Golubinja–Nemila subsection remains closed as motorway construction continues, with traffic redirected onto the M-17 main road.

Restrictions for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes remain in place on the Dobro Polje–Miljevina, Tuzla–Bijeljina and Jablanica–Blidinje main roads.

On the Romanija mountain pass, between Podromanija and Sumbulovac, traffic is moving slowly with occasional stoppages because of construction of a climbing lane for slow-moving vehicles.

Meanwhile, alternating one-lane traffic is in effect on working days between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. through the Vratnik Tunnel on the Sarajevo–Lapisnica road while lighting is being installed. The same traffic regime also applies on the Crna Rijeka–Jajce (Podmilacje), Izacic–Bihac and Konjic–Jablanica (Ribicki Bridge) sections.

With Bosnia and Herzegovina experiencing extremely high temperatures, BIHAMK has advised motorists to avoid travelling during the hottest part of the day, take more frequent breaks and check the latest road conditions and traffic cameras before setting off.
