If it is forgotten, it will be repeated, Numan Kurtulmus, an MP in the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, said at the commemoration of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica. He came to Bosnia to send messages from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the people of this country.
Kurtulmus also quoted the first president of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegović.
“If it is forgotten, it will be repeated,” Kurtulmus quoted Izetbegovic.
Kurtulmus also criticized the international community.
“Responsibility for the genocide in Srebrenica falls on those who committed it, but part of the responsibility is borne by the international community. During the genocide and after it, the silence and insensitivity of the international community – that insensitivity, which was the worst, are the things we remember,” said Kurtulmus.
For the sake of the generations to come, we must talk about what happened in Srebrenica, he added.
Turkish President Erdogan said that just as Turkiye stood by the Bosniak brothers throughout history, in good and bad times, it will continue to do so and it will not allow the genocide that happened in front of the eyes of European soldiers to be forgotten.
The remains of 50 victims of the genocide committed in Srebrenica in 1995 will be buried Monday at the Srebrenica Memorial Center – Potocari, during a collective funeral.
So far, 6,671 victims have been buried in the Srebrenica – Potocari Memorial Center.
