Thirty years after the formal signing of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America and the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty, released a statement affirming Britain's enduring commitment to the country's peace, stability, and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

The statement, issued on the anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement's signing in Paris, honored the victims of the brutal conflict and stressed that "European security can never be taken for granted."

Minister Doughty highlighted the UK's long-standing, leading role in safeguarding BiH's sovereignty and independence, citing ongoing work with the High Representative, EUFOR, and other international partners to uphold the foundational agreement.

Focus on progress and unity

The Minister pointed to recent diplomatic efforts, including the UK-hosted Berlin Process, where discussions centered on achieving self-sustaining peace, reconciliation, and economic connectivity across the Western Balkans.

"We are resolutely committed to work with the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and wider region, to support efforts towards a more stable and prosperous future for all citizens," Doughty stated.

In closing, he emphasized the continued need for political leaders in BiH to adopt a constructive approach: "In the spirit of Dayton, we continue to encourage consensus and compromise, delivering reform and progress by focusing on what unites rather than divides."
