The overhaul is expected to significantly enhance river transport and stimulate economic growth across the region.

Following a multi-year, phased implementation process, the modernized port features advanced equipment alongside upgraded links to local rail and road infrastructure.

The project was delivered across three distinct phases. It included the reconstruction of an 8,000-square-meter port platform, the acquisition of a new 27-ton crane, the construction of a dedicated access road, and the restoration of the railway track connecting to the Brcko agro-industrial complex.

Perica Josic, the Director of Brcko Port, confirmed that the procurement also included a 150-ton bulk cargo container and specialist accompanying equipment designed to handle moisture-sensitive freight.

The completion of this final stage allows for the relocation of the old railway line away from urban residential areas, a move expected to ease local traffic congestion and improve public safety.

Josic confirmed the successful conclusion of the works, noting that representatives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, who monitored the implementation, expressed satisfaction with the final outcome.

According to the director, the revitalization marks a significant step forward for the transport infrastructure and economy of the Brcko District by enabling more efficient cargo handling, increasing total capacity, and establishing better conditions to attract new business partners.

He added that the modernized port is now positioned to become an important regional logistics hub connected to broader European transport corridors, a potential he noted was reinforced during discussions with the international partners and financial institutions involved in the scheme.

The revitalization project was funded through a combination of European Union grants and loans from international financial institutions. This modernization represents a critical step toward strengthening the economy of the Brcko District and improving river transport networks within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
