US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Michael Murphy published a video from Travnik on X, in which he states that the Embassy marked the end of the project to help rebuild the walls of the Old Town fortress damaged by the earthquake.
He added that the American Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation made a donation of $75,000 for this purpose.
“By preserving this fortress, we ensure that the rich history of Travnik continues to inspire future generations. The US is proud of its support for this project and numerous other cultural projects throughout BiH, having invested a total of more than 2.4 million dollars,” Murphy said.
He pointed out that, since the restoration began, the number of visitors to the fortress increased from zero in 2000 to more than 66,000 in 2023, which was also the inspiration for the restoration of the Chiro train, the protection of ancient Roman sites and the restoration of the birthplace of Nobel laureate Ivo Andric.
“All this proves that heritage protection is not only about preserving the past but also about laying the foundations for a brighter future. That is why it is important to continue to protect the common heritage of this wonderful country and build a future full of opportunities for all,” Murphy concluded.
