On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, US Ambassador to BiH urged the local officials to accept the truth and teach future generations of the truth about the events that led to over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys being jilled on July 11th, 1995.
In his video message, the Ambassador said that this important anniversary is a reminder that society, political leaders and institutions of all levels in BiH are responsible for confirming the facts related to the genocide in Srebrenica.
These facts were established with certainty by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, as well as the International Court of Justice he said, urging BiH officials at all levels to accept what happened in Srebrenica 27 years ago and to accept their ongoing obligation to deal with it by teaching future generations the truth, showing respect for the victims, supporting survivors – including remembering, searching for the missing, and seeking justice through research and by prosecuting the perpetrators, some of whom are still at large.
This, he notes, is the only way to the future that brings reconciliation to the people of BiH.
