US Congressman Mike Turner backs BiH - until kickoff

Republican Congressman Mike Turner has shared a light-hearted message ahead of the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the close ties between the two countries.

In a post on X, Turner, who is an honorary citizen of Sarajevo, said he would be supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina - at least before the match begins.
"The USA and Bosnia-Herzegovina face off on July 1 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara, California for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
As an honorary citizen of Sarajevo, I'll be cheering for old friends... right up until kickoff. See you on the pitch!
No matter the final score, the friendship between our nations is a victory that will long outlast any match," Turner wrote.
Turner was awarded honorary citizenship of Sarajevo in recognition of his long-standing support for Bosnia and Herzegovina and his advocacy for peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
The United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina will meet in the Round of 16 in one of the most anticipated matches in Bosnian football history, with a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake.
