The United States has been working with Bosnia and Herzegovina for nearly three decades to clear landmines, helping to improve safety while also creating opportunities for economic development, the US Embassy in BiH said.

US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires John Ginkel met with Enis Horozovic, director of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre (BHMAC), to discuss their shared goals in the country's demining efforts.

The Embassy stressed that the importance of demining goes beyond public safety.

''This work is not only about safety. It paves the way for Bosnia and Herzegovina's future, including strategic projects such as the Southern Interconnection, which will provide energy to households and contribute to economic growth for generations to come,'' the US Embassy said in a post on X.

The United States has supported mine-clearance projects in BiH for years. More than three decades after the end of the war, the country continues to deal with the consequences of widespread mine contamination.
