The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the United States has issued a formal statement clarifying the significance of the Congressional Passover Seder held on Capitol Hill. Responding to public reactions, the Embassy emphasized that the Seder is primarily a religious and cultural event centered on universal values of freedom, dignity, and remembrance, principles that belong to all of humanity rather than a single faith or nation.

The ceremony served as a high-level diplomatic platform to present the Sarajevo Haggadah, one of Bosnia’s most vital historical artifacts. Ambassador Sven Alkalaj noted that the event brought together prominent members of the US Congress, the diplomatic corps, and various religious leaders. Key addresses were delivered by Presidency Chair Denis Becirovic and Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic, highlighting the Haggadah as a symbol of how citizens of different faiths protected one another during history's darkest hours.

Addressing domestic and international perceptions, the Embassy stated that the Seder is not a political message directed against any party. Instead, it is a strategic opportunity to showcase Bosnia’s tradition of mutual respect and solidarity. "The story of the Sarajevo Haggadah holds a special place as a symbol of our shared heritage," the statement read, reinforcing the country's identity as a crossroads of diverse cultures.

Ambassador Alkalaj further argued that portraying such an event as controversial detracts from the essential goal of promoting Bosnia as an open, tolerant society. He maintained that fostering trust through cultural diplomacy is in the country’s best interest.

The Embassy concluded that the Washington Seder is an expression of the responsibility to uphold the values of coexistence that have sustained the nation throughout its millennial history.
