Wildfire in Blidinje Nature Park brought under control with help from Canadairs

The fire spread through woodland during the day and approached nearby homes, prompting the evacuation of residents. The flames also threatened the landmark church in Masna Luka.
The blaze was difficult to tackle because of the rugged terrain, with flames rising dozens of metres above the pine forest and thick smoke covering the area.
Two Croatian Canadair firefighting aircraft joined crews from three Herzegovinian cantons in tackling the fire from the air and ground.
“Thanks to the major assistance provided by the Croatian Canadairs, the fire in Masna Luka has been brought under control,” the West Herzegovina Civil Protection Administration said.
Firefighters remain at the scene to monitor the area and prevent the fire from spreading again.
