Heavy rain and wind that hit parts of Bosnia this weekend, have caused major floods and led to the suspension of traffic on some roads.

The Novi Travnik-Bugojno road in central Bosnia has been closed after the collapse of a bridge caused by flooding of the Vrbas river. Traffic has been redirected to other local roads.

The traffic has also been suspended on Kiseljak-Busovaca local road, central Bosnia, due to floods caused by heavy rain and snow melting.

The northern Zenica-Doboj region was hit by floods, which caused damage in several Zenica settlements, the Civil Protection Administration in that town confirmed.

“We’ve encountered problems in several settlements, but we have not alarmed the Civil Protection of Zenica as we will be monitoring the situation throughout the day,” said Dzavid Alicic, the chief of Zenica-Doboj Canton Civil Protection Administration.

A local of Bistricak village Senad Krusko said a part of the village has been cut from the rest of the village and other two nearby settlements, due to floods.

“We have three very ill patients there whom we cannot reach because the road has been blocked since last night,” said Krusko, urging the competent services to react and enable the Bistricak-Jastrebac local road for traffic.

The Federation’s Civil Protection Administration has formed intervention teams who will be monitoring situation in crisis areas and act wherever it is necessary.

Strong wind has also been causing problems over the past days especially in the central Bosnia causing severe damage to some households.
