Bosnia's Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic congratulated the International Women's Day – March 8, saying that only as a society of equal citizens can Bosnia be better than it is today.

“The March 8 as International Women's Day is a symbol of the historic and progressive efforts of women for the acceptance of the social principle of gender equality as an important pillar of civil society. At the same time, this day is an opportunity to remember the enormous contribution of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina in building our country, institutions and the society in general,” said Komsic.

“The fact regarding the low representation of women in leadership positions needs to be changed, not to formally respect the principle of gender equality, but because I deeply believe that the active role of women in every society makes the society better,” he said.

The Presidency Chairman argued that the question of gender equality is not just a women's issue which needs to be dealt with by women's associations and individuals.

“Equally important is the other gender which needs to actively take part in promoting the principles of gender equality with the aim of building a society of equal opportunity and rights for all, regardless of one's gender identity. Only as a society of equal citizens can we make our country even better than it is right now,” Komsic concluded.

He congratulated the March 8 to all the women in Bosnia and across the world wishing them love and respect.
