Becirovic warns French Ambassador at UN: RS militarising police

Bosnian Presidency member Denis Becirovic met with France’s UN Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where he voiced concern over what he described as a serious threat to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional order, the establishment of a reserve police force in the Republika Srpska (RS) entity.

Becirovic warned that the RS government's move to introduce a police reserve is a dangerous form of militarisation that could destabilise the country and violate the Dayton Peace Agreement. He emphasised the need for international partners to take concrete steps to protect Bosnia’s peace and stability, particularly through the UN Security Council.
The meeting also focused on France’s support for the UN General Assembly’s resolution recognising the International Day of Remembrance for the Srebrenica Genocide. Becirovic thanked French President Emmanuel Macron and called the resolution a sign of strong bilateral ties.
Ambassador Bonnafont reaffirmed France’s support for Bosnia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its Euro-Atlantic path, emphasising the importance of strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law.
