During the United Nations Security Council session, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Denis Bećirović, delivered a strong speech addressing key foreign policy stances of Bosnia and Herzegovina and warning about threats to peace and stability in the region.
Becirovic emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina's primary foreign policy goals are accession to NATO and the EU, noting, “Bosnia and Herzegovina has successfully made significant progress towards Euro-Atlantic and European integration. Our achievements would have been even greater if it weren't for external obstructions and blockades.” He also stressed the importance of recognizing the historical external aggression faced by Bosnia, particularly the 1992-1995 war, as established by UN court rulings.
He criticized Serbia's leadership for not recognizing the judgments of UN courts and condemned the glorification of war criminals within the Republika Srpska entity. He also warned of dangerous rhetoric advocating for the reintegration of Republika Srpska into Serbia, calling on the international community to take these threats to Bosnia's sovereignty seriously.
Becirovic concluded by emphasizing the need for a strong EUFOR and NATO presence in Bosnia: “The presence of EUFOR is crucial for maintaining peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region.”
In response, member of the Presidency Zeljka Cvijanovic criticized Becirovic's speech, describing it as evidence of his “Serbophobia” and claiming his arguments about threats from Serbia and Republika Srpska were baseless. She further argued that Becirovic ignored pressing issues, such as the growing radicalization in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, according to her, pose a real threat.
Cvijanovic characterized Becirovic's approach as “great-Bosniak politics,” focused solely on Bosniak interests while neglecting the rights of Serbs and Croats within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
