The City of Bihac has not received a single euro of financial assistance from Austrian government for the migrant crisis in this part of Bosnia, mayor Suhret Fazlic told Austrian delegation visiting this town in Bosnia’s northwest on Tuesday.

“I take no care of the money belonging to someone else and those who send the aid should take care of where the money ended up and how it was spent. The city of Bihac has not received a single mark and it did not take part in its spending,” said the mayor in a meeting with European Parliament member representing Austria Ewa Ernst-Dziedzic.

She got the same answer from Mustafa Ruznic, the prime minister of Una-Sana Canton (USC), the northwestern region where Bihac is located and which currently hosts several thousand migrants heading to EU in few migrant camps.

The MEP arrived to get informed about the migrant crisis just outside the European Union’s borders, days after four Italy’s MEPs paid a visit to the region and neighbouring Croatia for the same reason.

Among the location that Austria’s MEP visited were the migrant camps Lipa and Borici.

“I would like to know how the Austrian government’s money was spent, considering the fact that a million Euro assistance was sent during the crisis in Lipa camp. I learned in talks with mayor Fazlic and cantonal prime minister Ruznic that local and cantonal authorities did not even see that money”, she stressed.

It appears, she said, the institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina never had access to the donations, stressing that this matter should be looked into more carefully.
