Over six hours of continuous flight operations above the affected terrain, seventy-three tonnes of water were discharged, successfully bringing several blazes that posed an immediate threat to residential properties under control. Ground crews continue to face severe operational difficulties across approximately twenty active fire sites due to rugged topography and a lack of access roads.
Later in the afternoon, a fresh fire erupted south of the city following a snapped power line, rapidly advancing towards urban areas. The helicopter crew deployed immediately, operating in testing conditions characterised by strong winds, elevated temperatures, and numerous overhead power lines to contain the spread.
An Air Tractor aircraft was also dispatched to bolster the response, with the Ministry of Defense Public Relations Office confirming that military aviation units will maintain support, prioritising at-risk homes and outbuildings.
