Denis Becirovic, the Bosniak member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency, said in a note to French President Emmanuel Macron it is of exceptional significance that France gives support to candidate status of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the European Union membership at the upcoming summit in Brussels.
Bosnia's membership application is expected to be on agenda of the upcoming European Council meeting this month, after the European Commission recommended the country be granted the candidate status.
“The citizens and people of Bosnia and Herzegovina who showed me their trust expect fundamental reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina and constructive dialogue of all political actors in order to overcome current stagnation and to open better perspectives for all people in my country,” Becirovic wrote in the letter.
He thanked Macron for congratulating him on the victory in the election for the Presidency.
“I am happy that France fully supports European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina, pointing at necessity to implement essential reforms, especially those that are a part of the European Commission's recommendations,” he added.
Speaking of the priorities of his work, Becirovic said those will include the implementation of reforms and Bosnia's accelerated journey to the European Union and NATO.
The Presidency member thanked the French President for his own and the support of his country to the constant support to Bosnia's Euro-Atlantic integration.
He also emphasised the commitment to strengthen the friendly relationship between Bosnia and France.
Becirovic was officially sworn in as the Presidency member on november 16 alongside Serb member Zeljka Cvijanovic and Croat Zeljko Komsic.
