Srebrenica is a strong warning, first of all to us who survived, but, I hope, to generations to come as well - said Tuesday the Head of the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein Kavazovic, before the funeral for 30 victims of the genocide committed against Bosniaks in Srebrenica.
“We should all have asked ourselves how this came to be, and look at the consequences of what was done. Those who were behind this, who did not react all these years, knew what happened. Twenty-eight years have passed, and we are still searching for a large number of people in the tombs. I cannot say that there is no catharsis, but it is very quiet, and how will we welcome the 30th anniversary, that is now the question,” the Grand Mufti said.
He said that he hopes that the truth will prevail and that “it will be beneficial for all of us, both the families of the victims and those from whose people this genocide was planned, carried out and hidden to this day.”
“I hope that we will all realize that only the truth can set us free. We need, for the sake of future generations, to build a better world compared to what we lived in the nineties. Our Bosniak nation is a nation that carries pain and sorrow, it will not stop, but we are ready to accept the sincere repentance of those who sincerely repent. I ask God to grant the families of the victims every good thing, that their children be strong, that they be a message to all those who did this, but also to those who may harbour the same intent in their souls for some future times,” Grand Mufti Kavazovic said.
