Bosnian Serb politician Igor Crnadak has claimed that he knows who will become the next international peace envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying the appointment is expected to be agreed upon soon.

In a post on Facebook, Crnadak said the future High Representative is a person whose identity is known to him but whose name has not appeared among the publicly mentioned candidates.

"The High Representative will be agreed upon soon. It will be a person whose name is known to me and who is currently not among the publicly announced candidates. They will have the unanimous support of the European Union and the United States," Crnadak wrote.

He also commented on the position of the authorities of Republika Srpska regarding Acting High Representative Louis Crishock, arguing that they do not publicly support the continuation of his mandate in order to avoid conflicting with Russia's position, while expressing support through informal channels.

"They are assuring Washington that the reason is the proximity of the elections, not the official position of Moscow, which strongly condemned and refused to recognize Crishock's appointment. That is a childish understanding of politics, and the only thing worse than that is the fact that the team responsible for Republika Srpska's foreign policy actually believes this is politics, some kind of diplomatic masterstroke, even though it is a cheap trick that everyone has already seen through," Crnadak said.

He argued that the opposition has a clear vision of how Republika Srpska should position itself internationally.

"We need a clear policy, positioning Republika Srpska toward the EU, the United States and the West, while maintaining good relations with Russia, China and other major powers with whom we traditionally have good relations. Republika Srpska needs reforms, the rule of law and functioning institutions so that it can become a reliable international partner that is trusted," Crnadak wrote.

What Happened After Christian Schmidt's Resignation?

Following Christian Schmidt's resignation as High Representative, the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) Steering Board appointed Louis Crishock as Acting High Representative pending agreement on a permanent successor.

Russia rejected Crishock's appointment, maintaining its long-standing position that the appointment of a High Representative should be endorsed by the UN Security Council. Western members of the PIC, however, backed the appointment and recognized Crishock as the acting head of the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

Since then, diplomatic consultations have continued over the selection of a permanent High Representative, although no official consensus or formal nomination has yet been publicly announced.
