Bosnia's Becirovic meets NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Sekerinska

Becirovic emphasised that Bosnia and NATO are inseparably linked, recalling that the Alliance had established and preserved peace in the country, for which its citizens remain permanently grateful. He stressed that BiH’s state institutions have unanimously defined the legal framework and expressed their commitment to pursuing NATO membership.

During the talks, the Presidency member warned that dangerous attacks on the constitutional order pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the country. He underlined that such activities must be stopped through the responsible and joint actions of Bosnia’s institutions and international partners, with a clear insistence on respecting the Constitution and the laws of the state.

Deputy Secretary General Sekerinska stated that NATO strongly condemns any secessionist activities. She reaffirmed NATO’s consistent and continuous commitment to BiH’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that final rulings of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina must be implemented. She also stressed that regardless of the outcome of the upcoming UN Security Council session, NATO will not allow a security vacuum in the country.

The meeting also addressed pressing security challenges, including the risks of hybrid threats, propaganda, and destabilising activities. The importance of strengthening the international presence was highlighted, with a particular focus on renewing the mandate of the EUFOR Althea mission.

In conclusion, both sides underscored that responsible action by domestic institutions, supported by active international engagement, remains a crucial factor in preventing destabilisation and further strengthening the country.
