In the first half of the year, Bosnia and Herzegovina's metal and electrical industry achieved a total foreign trade volume of 8.8 billion Bosnian marks (some € 4.4 billion). Exports accounted for 3.4 billion marks (around € 1.7 billion), a decrease from the same period last year, while imports increased to 5.4 billion marks (roughly € 2.7 billion).

According to the state Foreign Trade Chamber, the decline in exports is primarily due to a drop in the export of iron, steel, and their products, totalling around 200 million marks (some € 100 million). Meanwhile, imports have risen in the arms and automotive industries.

The EU remains Bosnia's top export market, with Germany leading despite fluctuations. The growth in imports is largely driven by the electrical, arms, and automotive industries, with Germany being the largest source.

The arms industry saw increased trade volume due to higher exports and imports, particularly of explosives used as raw materials and exports of weapons and ammunition.

Overall, the first half of the year showed a decrease in exports and an increase in imports, leading to a higher trade deficit in nearly all economic sectors and a reduced surplus in the wood sector. These trends reflect the broader economic situation in Europe, impacting not only Bosnia but the entire region.
