Head of Bosnian government Zoran Tegeltija held a series of separate meetings with US representatives in Washington, inviting them to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina and talk with political representatives of three constituent peoples about all major problems in the country. He stressed that the key problem in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a lack of dialogue.
Tegeltija met with Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council Amanda Sloat, Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar and Principal Deputy Assistant in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Dereck Hogan during his multi-day visit to Washington.
On this occasion he emphasised that Republika Srpska, Bosnia's Serb-majority entity, respects the Dayton Agreement, internal structure and decentralised system of power with territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Also, I reiterated that Republika Srpska does not want, does not plan or is implementing a process of secession from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was welcomed by positive stances of the US, because they are burdened with continuous accusation at expense of Republika Srpska,” said Tegeltija without providing further context.
Speaking from Washington, he said he used the opportunity to present stances on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he expressed fears over the “fact” that there is intention of abandoning the principle of consensus in Bosnia and Herzegovina on which the state with two entities is grounded.
“i also expressed concern over the lack of consent for internal dialogue because one side expects the international community to deliver a solution that would suit it,” said Tegeltija, the Chairman of Bosnia's Council of Ministers, noting that a part of the international institutions and embassies take one side in Bosnia and Herzegovina, sending “one-sided information and reports to its countries,” which leads their countries to take “superficial decisions.”
According to him, holding of elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina was in focus of interest of the US representatives.
“I reiterated our commitment to have the elections although the conditions under which they will be held do not guarantee that the election results will be implemented. The US representatives are aware that implementation of (election) results will be very complicated and difficult, but they deem that it will be on agenda once the elections are held,” he added.
