Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently not in the focus of the international community, former president and prime minister of Croatia Stjepan Mesic told N1, adding that the whole world is now occupied with what is happening in Ukraine.

“In order to avoid any sort of situation leading to war on the territory of former Yugoslavia, there have to be those who will convey clear messages to Zagreb and Belgrade,” Mesic stressed, adding that Bosnian politicians, leaders of strongest Bosnian Serb and Bosnian Croat political parties, Milorad Dodik and Dragan Covic, exercise the policies of Zagreb and Belgrade.

A year ago, the former Croatian official sent an “appeal for rescue of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” aimed to open a discussion on the country but, as he said he is not sure the goal has been achieved.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently not in the focus of the international community. You see what is happening. Nobody expected a war would broke out in Ukraine and obviously all world leaders are occupied with that war situation,” he explained.

As for the conflict in Ukraine, Mesic deems it is not enough only to arm Ukraine but to hear what needs to be done to impose the peace in that country.

“This war should not be waged until the last Ukrainian, or Russian,” he added.

According to him, there are no leaders in Europe.

“The last leaders Europe had were those who designed united Europe,” Mesic said.

Speaking about Bosnia and Herzegovina and its path to Europe, he said that only if it becomes a civic state, the country could make a serious progress on that path. He deems that the election of left-leaning Zeljko Komsic and Denis Becirovic to Bosnia's tripartite Presidency means a step closer to the civic state.
