“This moment is favorable, and I urge you to proceed with voting on the law without hesitation. We believe we have the momentum to accomplish this without any use of force", the president of BiH’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, said on Thursday as lawmakers in the RS National Assembly were about to vote on a set of laws that would pull the entity out of the BiH justice system.

The move comes after the BiH Court sentenced Dodik to a year in prison and banned him from serving as RS president for six years due to his non-compliance with decisions of the High Representative of the international community in the country, Christian Schmidt.
The Assembly is voting on a set of draft laws under urgent procedure, namely: the Draft Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Republika Srpska, the Draft Law on the Non-Implementation of Laws and the Prohibition of the Activities of "Unconstitutional Institutions of BiH" (Court, Prosecutor's Office, SIPA), the Draft Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska and the Draft Law on the Special Register and Public Transparency of Non-Profit Organizations.

"We are determined in what we are doing," Dodik added, concluding that "conditions have been created for RS to respond in this way."

Dodik stated that in previous years and decades, it was not the "right moment" due to, as he put it, stereotypes about Serbs as the "bad guys".

"The RS had to buy time to reach the moment we have today. We never accepted that these were settled matters. Something is final only when you write a constitution and then translate it into laws. We played our hand excellently; two processes collapsed despite the involvement of the EU and the US at the highest level. I am proud that we pursued policies of non-acceptance. I believe that today, the situation is favorable for RS to reclaim its subjectivity. We are defending an international agreement called the Constitution of BiH," said the entity president.
