The "Peace March" route has been determined for estimated 4,000 participants, Suljo Cakanovic, the president of the "Peace March 2023" organizing subcommittee, told FENA news agency.
“Smaller details remain, while logistics and everything else is ready for this year's Peace March. The most important thing is that the route is ready and unchanged. Currently, there are 3,009 registered groups and individuals,” he said.
Cakanovic has been one of the participants of the Peace March since it was held for the first time in 2005, and he points out that the march in memory of the victims of genocide has become an integral part of his life.
The convoy of march participants, organized as part of the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, leaves on July 8 from Nezuk towards Potocari. It will follow the regular route with stops at the execution sites with historical information.
This year, the participants will also pay tribute to the late Ramiz Nukic, the man who found numerous remains of genocide victims in Podrinje locations. In the past two decades, he found the remains of more than 300 victims, mostly on forest paths and mine-contaminated and inaccessible areas.
This year's Peace March is being held for the nineteenth time and is one of the most significant activities marking the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica. The participants are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the diaspora, and all parts of the world.
